The existing clock designs were recorded and faithfully reproduced by us to preserve the historic details.

The Guildhall is a 16th century building of great historic interest and was formerly a courtroom and council chamber and is still a thriving part of the local community.

The ground floor is of Tudor origin and has beautifully preserved panelling. The Guildhall houses the civic plate and many rare items with the front of the building dominated by the magnificent and iconic bracket clock made in 1683.

Earlier in 2002 Ash Contracting Ltd were awarded the project to repaint the outside of the Guildhall and we were given the opportunity to quote for the gold leaf restoration on and around the clockface.

We were very fortunate to be involved in the full Guildhall Restoration in 1987 and it was a great honour to be back there again all these years later.

We set to work taking drawings of any of the old, gilded designs and then started with the preparation to repaint these areas ready for signwriting and gilding. We used a 23¾ carat gold transfer leaf as this was the best gold for the project and aesthetics.

The whole project was completed in two weeks, bringing the old clock back to its former glory.
